STULL TECHNOLOGIES
SOARS THROUGH EXTENSIVE SENIOR FRIENDLY, CHILD RESISTANT PROTOCOL
TESTING WITH SOLUTION FOR HYDROCARBON PACKGING REQUIREMENT
Stull Technologies Moves Forward with StullSURE CRC, A
Cosmetic Looking Closure System to Solve Hydrocarbon Packaging Requirement
Somerset, NJ-Stull
Technologies announced today the company's new Child Resistant closure,
the StullSURE sailed through protocol testing, surpassing
all CPSC requirements with a near perfect success rate. Stull began
developing the new child resistant, one-piece flip-top closure in
response to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission's
vote to require child-resistant packaging for common household and
cosmetic products containing 10% or more low-viscosity hydrocarbons
by weight. Stull completed the final stages of development of the
StullSURE CRC in late May 2002.
In early June,
a government certified Child Resistant test center began performing
extensive Child Resistant Protocol testing on Stull's newest closure.
On June 27, 2002 Stull received the results confirming the StullSURE
not only met the standards, but greatly exceeded the standards.
Robert Auer,
Stull Technologies Director of Product and Development, explains,
"Some people don't realize that it's the combination of the
cap and bottle that makes a package child resistant. In our opinion,
having two separate pieces creates un-needed risk and complexity
to achieve safety. Our patented snap on, flip top design creates
a one-piece CR package. The StullSURE cap is never removed
from the bottle, taking the responsibility away from the consumer
and eliminating the risk associated with multi-piece designs."
According to
Gene Stull, Stull Technologies Chairman and CEO, "Stull has
always been and strives to continue to be on the forefront of innovative
packaging. It is comforting to know we can use our expertise to
help prevent dangerous mishaps from occurring, and help to make
the world safer and keep families healthy." Stull's CEO and
Chairman continues to explain, "Our current child resistant
charcoal lighter fluid cap has remained an industry standard for
over twenty-years and we feel that our new StullSURE CRC will
continue this trend and pave the road for child resistant packages
to come."
Stull Technologies
developed the StullSURE CRC to appear and function like a
standard flip-top closure to maintain a cosmetic looking package.
Unlike current child resistant packages on the market today, the
StullSURE utilizes a patent pending locking device making
the package truly senior friendly while keeping children out. Jameson
Stull, Stull Technologies Manager of Sales Engineering, explains,
"We felt that consumers along with our customers would not
welcome a bulky design, so our goal was to work backwards starting
with a friendly closure like the flip-top. We are not aware of a
similar solution currently available or actively being marketed.
The overall project has exceeded our original expectations."
According to
an October 16, 2001 press release issued by the CPSC, "We know
that child-resistant packaging saves lives." The CPSC continues
to explain, "This safety standard will help prevent injuries
and deaths to children under 5 years of age who swallow and aspirate
certain oily liquids containing hydrocarbons . . . CPSC is aware
of five fatalities of children under 5 years old from 1993 to date
involving aspiration of hydrocarbon products. CPSC data for 1997
through 1999 revealed an estimated 6,400 emergency room visits involving
children under 5 years of age who ingested household chemical products
that frequently contain hydrocarbons that can pose an aspiration
hazard. In addition, data from the American Association of Poison
Control Centers for 1993 through 1999 revealed 11,115 potential
aspiration exposures to cosmetic and household products containing
hydrocarbons."
Following the
recent decision by the CPSC, news of the danger associated with
low-viscosity hydrocarbons has appeared in the forefront of mainstream
America. Oprah Winfrey dedicated a one-hour episode of her afternoon
talk show to the topic, interviewing families that have been forced
to deal first hand with this subject. Response to this new law has
been overwhelmingly favorable in homes throughout America. Families
interviewed on Oprah's show expressed their deepest thanks to the
CPSC and everyone's efforts to help solve this potentially fatal
problem.
